The Cub Scout year parallels the school year and dues is paid once per year. We pro-rate dues for people who join in January, Feb., and March because of the short year, no Pinewood Derby car, etc.
Dues: Example... needs to be updated

  • Continuing Scout with Scout Life magazine $180
  • Continuing Scout WITHOUT Scout Life magazine $165
  • New Scout with Scout Life magazine $195
  • New Scout WITHOUT Scout Life magazine $180

Dues cover:

  • Youth registration
  • Boy’s Life (magazine, starts approximately 2 months after joining)
  • Pinewood Derby car
  • Handbook
  • Neckerchief

The above is different for the Lion program. The differences are specified on the Lion page.

Officially, the Cub Scout may start their next level as soon as the school year ends. So we give them their books and neckerchiefs in May for the summer. (One exception: Those who are already Webelos do not get a new book or neckerchief, but they still pay the same dues because their awards are far more expensive.)

We pay the following calendar-year Charter at the end of October. We used to ask for these (dues) in September. But it took way too long, and in the early years it was hard to pay the Council on time. So asking in May, often with a discount incentive, makes it easier, because there are way fewer people for the den leaders to call over the summer.
